This morning we woke to a slightly overcast day.  Before too long we had a shower of rain and then the sky cleared and the sun came out and stayed out until about 4pm.  Then it suddenly got really cold, the clouds came in and looked very angry.  Lightning flashed,  thunder clapped and then all of a sudden it started to hail.  Just lightly to start with but within seconds it got very very heavy.  This lasted maybe ten or fifteen minutes and at the end the ground was transformed.  It so looked like it had snowed.   I hope it hasn’t damaged any of the fruit trees in the garden, or, for that matter, the garden itself.

I dont think I have ever seen hail like this before!.

Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th August 2011, I will not forget these two dates in a hurry

because for as long as I can remember I have never seen it snow here in Renwick or Blenheim.

Sure we have had the odd flurry, but on Monday afternoon it started to snow and although it

didn  settle on the ground it continued off and on for over an hour.  It got bitterly cold

overnight and on Tuesday morning we had a true Alpine Village setting in Blenheim and the

surrounding hills were very picturesque.  Wednesday morning was similar but the snow didnt

come down as low, but the hills surrounding Blenheim and Renwick looked amazing.  Roll on

summer.
